Ebook About Pre-teen Ronni is a seemingly normal girl growing up in the suburbs, until the day her mom hides cookies. Soon after, Ronni has an unexplainable compulsion to eat more and more and more junk.In secret and shame, she overeats and binges through tween years, high school, college, an abusive first marriage, and even a loving second marriage. Over thirty years, she steals food, eats food off of others' plates, and scavenges food out of the trash, until one night, once again stuffed after a binge, on TV, she hears the words “compulsive overeater.”She searches and she learns she has an eating disorder, a mental illness, a disease.Armed with this knowledge she attacks her compulsion full throttle. She goes to therapy, Overeaters Anonymous meetings, read books, and namelessly blogs in an attempt to gain power over food.A brutally honest glimpse into the trials, pervasive thoughts, and heartbreak of a compulsive overeater, discover how Ronni gains the courage and strength to live her life without being a slave to food.Book Out of the Pantry: A Disordered Eating Journey Review :
As a woman who once suffered from bulimia, I could totally relate to Ronni’s account of overeating as a mental illness. I was fortunate enough to have sought therapy in my 20’s and, like Ronni, came to understand that there’s so much more to our relationship with food than just filling hunger with heaping helpings.Out of the Pantry is a page turning account of how, through OA, therapy, and loving support from an understanding husband, Ronni learns that her obsession with filling her emotional holes with food is not her fault; that her mother’s chill, her father’s distance, and her brother’s perfection played key roles in the development of her illness. Through therapy, Ronni learns how power-full being a power-less child in an emotionally lacking family can be. She describes the emotional torment an overeater experiences living a life of reasoning, rationalizing, defending and lying. Ronni’s final chapters are about her personal journey, but they also offer a roadmap to recovery for others. More importantly, Out of the Pantry offers hope to those who suffer similarly. This highly readable book should be a standard for therapist's with clients experiencing eating disorders. I definitely recommend this as a compelling read as well. I was captured right away by the title of the memoir,Out of the Pantry:A Disordered Eating Journey. My life has been controlled by food as long as I can remember. Ronni has brought to mind many situations I’ve been through myself. Her memoir takes the reader back to her early years growing up in a home with stress and sadness. Following through with her school years andInto adulthood suffering from an eating disorder. I was happy to see how she worked through with recovery groups and therapy, to finally beat her obsession with food. Reading her story has given me hope that maybe I can find healing as well. I recommend this book to everyone dealing with issues of food, or compulsive eating.
